Regional growth differences: Regions and sectors
How has a region developed compared to another? Was the development mainly due to economic structures or to location factors? Which economic sector is responsible for the difference in the development between two regions?

We compare employment development in different regions and with shift-share analysis we investigate the causes for the regional growth differences. Shift-share analysis allows to differentiate between structural and locational reasons for growth differences. The structural effect shows whether growth sectors or declining sectors prevail in a region. The location effect is an indicator for locational factors that either favor or hinder economic growth.

Practical example:

"Man weiss nie, was daraus wird, wenn die Dinge verändert werden. Aber weiss man denn, was daraus wird, wenn sie nicht verändert werden?"
Elias Canetti, Schriftsteller
